Father Christmas on the Vaal River & The Great Boat Toy Drop
The Great Boat Toy Drop
Let's create a River of Toys... and Boats of Joy!
Last year, the Vaal River community showed what can happen when people come together.
Hundreds of toys were donated by local families, boaters, businesses and visitors. Through the wonderful work of the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark, those gifts found their way into the hands of children who otherwise would have had nothing to open on Christmas morning.
The smiles were unforgettable. This year we're aiming even higher!
Our dream is to make Christmas 2026 the biggest Boat Toy Drop ever, ensuring that even more disadvantaged children across the Vaal Triangle experience the magic and excitement of receiving a special Christmas gift.
Every teddy bear, puzzle, soccer ball, doll, colouring book, toy car or gift makes a difference.
One toy.One smile. One magical Christmas memory.
Where can I donate?
Simply drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any of the participating river venues before Christmas:
- Riviera Hotel • Riverside Sun Hotel •.The View on Vaal •.Stonehaven on Vaal • Vaal River Lodge • Old Willow Houseboats • Waterfront Country Lodge •.Loch Vaal Club
The Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark will distribute every donated toy to local children most in need.
Be Part of Something Special
Whether you arrive by boat, jet ski, canoe, car or simply come along to watch, you'll be helping create one of the Vaal River's most loved Christmas traditions.
Let's fill the river with Christmas cheer...
A River of Toys.
Boats of Joy.
Thousands of Smiles.
We'll see you on the Vaal this Christmas!
BOAT TOY DROP
BOAT TOY DROP - 2025
(16th Dec 2025)
The very first-ever - 2025 Boat Toy Drop on the Vaal River was a heartwarming success - bringing smiles, hope, and Christmas joy to hundreds of deserving children.
So many toys were dropped off by boat - at numerous venues on the banks of the Vaal River, which would later be distributed by the local Vanderbijlpark Rotary Club.
A special thank you to - the People of South Africa Foundation, for your generosity in donating hundreds of toys, and to the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark for ensuring all these toys reached the local children most in need.
Adding even more magic to the day, Father Christmas arrived to personally hand out gifts just before Christmas - creating unforgettable memories for many children who otherwise may not have received a present at all.
Special thanks to Rotarian Jackie Van Waveren for passionately coordinating this meaningful initiative.
We now look forward to an even bigger 2026 Vaal River Boat Toy Drop on Wednesday, 16 December - with the hope of bringing Christmas joy to even more disadvantaged children in our community.
